Amore Aperol Spritz

Amore Aperol Spritz

Spring has finally sprung here in the city! Nothing makes me want to lounge alfresco more  then the thought of my Amore Aperol Spritz. Aperol found a soft spot in my heart about two years ago while I was on a trip to Italy with my mother. It was early spring and we had just arrived in Florence. Because of the time difference, my mother lead our party on the longest walk of my life to keep us awake and to insure that we would sleep well that night! During our trek, we stopped at a quintessentially Italian cafe and ordered a round of Aperol Spritz. “Salute,” we cheered to the start of our adventure!

Aperol is an aperitif brandy consisting of bitter orange, gentian root, and rhubarb, among many other herbs and spices.

It was such a delicious drink! Not too sweet and refreshing, but with a little kick. This was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. For the rest of the trip this was my signature drink and I ordered it wherever I found it on a menu, so whenever I have a spritz I think of my time spent in Italy. The idea for my Aperol Sprtiz cocktail came to me while enjoying the music of Don Giovanni. Of course the opera is in Italian so I immediately thought of Aperol. The Amore portion of this cocktail come from the use of a sparkling rosé wine instead of a white, which is the twist on the classic spritz.

Amore Aperol Spritz

this recipe is in parts, so you can make as many as you like

Ingredients: Chilled sparkling Rosé wine, Aperol (most liquor stores stock it), chilled club soda, ice, and meyer lemon slices for garnish (oranges will do the trick in a pinch).

Fill a wine glass with ice.

Then pour 3 parts Rosé.

Add two parts Aperol, I do this by swirling twice around the glass.

Dash a bit of soda on top and place your lemon garnish on top.

Salute!

Enjoy your drink, and repeat.

This cocktail is a simple, elegant way to greet your guests, and get them hungry.

I love serving the Amore Aperol Spritz when I have people over for dinner. It is such a treat to elevate a glass of wine to a cocktail — and I don’t regret too many of these the next morning. Try these sweeties out!
